Gangs July 6, 2009

There is a discussion on the Topix message board about how bad the gang problem is in different parts of the county.  I think, in the neighborhood I live in, there is one house up at the corner that might have some gang members, but that’s it.  How does your neighborhood fare?  Do you feel safe in your neighborhood?  What do you think officers could do to make the neighborhoods safer?  I’ll approve all comments unless they attack a specific individual or use profanity.

I feel safe. I currently live out near 166. I moved a little while back from the Bright Star/ Cowan Mill road area where I definitely DID NOT feel safe. Car driving by at all hours of the night with loud bass booming from them and groups of teens roaming at all hours. where were their parents??? The street I lived on was not a major thourghfare however, people started using it as a shortcut and it became Grand Central Station. Once Food Depot moved into the shopping center on Highway 5 things seemed to go down hill at a rapid rate. People walking and pushing grocery carts etc. We even saw the police chasing after a shoplifter from the store once. I am not blaming Food Depot,it may just be a coincidence, who knows.

Douglas County has gone downhill since the mall opened here. Walk through the mall and you see many thugs there that have their underwear showing. Pants beneathe the rear and shirts like 5 sizes too big. Pull in any gas station and you have to hear the BOOM BOOM music blarring and no matter how profain it is they play it. You better not say anything though because most of these kids are in gangs. All of the Douglas County schools are having gang issues as well. Ask your school resource officer about this. Ask your children! Be safe in Douglasville because it is no longer like Mayberry!!! Of course this is just my opinion.
