Something Smells…

This was posted on the Douglasville Topix board:

SPLOST = Yes 3918 50.21%
NO 3888 49.79%

Total Votes: 7806

TAD = Yes 2211 29.18%
NO 5365 70.82

Total Votes: 7576

SPLOST received 230 less votes than TAD.”

How in the world could 230 people just NOT vote on the second part of a vote…when it was on the SAME screen as the SPLOST?

    I hate to say this, so take it as devil’s advocate, but it is VERY easy because you are not REQUIRED to vote on all of it. There is a good chance some of those people were voting because others asked them to and not because they really cared about the issues. So they may have understood what the SPLOST portion was but not the TAD and just skipped it.

    I personal think it would do our elected officials a lot of good to bring trust back to the electoral process to have full disclosure of the votes. I feel cheated by the outcome of this election, not only because the SPLOST won, but because our elected offices found it necessary to keep putting this back on the ballot year after year until they received the desired outcome. It is proven that if you place an issue on the ballot long enough and confuse, scare and threaten the citizens enough, the vote will eventually go your way. I think it is a shame that we will now start paying higher sales taxes in a time where we are in a recession and people need money. I used to brag to my friends and family, if you want to play less sales taxes when you do your Christmas shopping, then come to Arbor Place Mall. Well, now they can shop in Cobb or Fulton counties, because now it doesn’t matter; they will be paying the same amount. If you want to drive business and have people spend money here, then keep taxes low, it’s not rocket science people. I can’t wait to boot these idiots out of office; that is, if my vote against them will be counted properly.
