Captain Larry Dukes, age 61, of Banks Mill Road, Douglasville, passed away suddenly November 20, 2008. He was born in Carroll County on May 30, 1947, the son of Mildred James Dukes and the late Willard B. Dukes. He was a Captain with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department where he served the people of our great county for 35 years. He was a member of the Prays Mill Baptist Church.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his family; vacationing with them in the mountains; cutting his grass and doing yard work. Larry dearly loved his grandchildren and looked forward to getting to spend time with them.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Jean Evans Dukes of Douglasville; mother, Mildred James Dukes of Douglasville; daughters and son-in-law, C. Denise Dukes of Lithia Springs and Angela Dukes and Stacy Wiggins of Douglasville; grandchildren, Michon Towry, Dylan Lewis and Caleb Wiggins; great grandchild, Makinzi Christianson; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Steve McAfee of Wedowee, Alabama; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Joyce Dukes of Douglasville; uncles, Malcolm James and Mac James both of Douglasville, Stewart Dukes of Lithia Springs and Denmon Dukes of Paulding County; a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 2:00 pm from Hightower’s Memorial Chapel with Reverend Ric Blazi, Reverend Ikey Watson and Chaplain Wayne Rogers officiating.

Interment will follow in the Prays Mill Baptist Church Cemetery with members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Douglas County Sheriff’s Office; other members of Law Enforcement; and Douglas County government. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard will present honors.

The family will receive friends this evening from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
