Deputy Bryland Myers stopped a black Mercedes traveling on Thornton Road yesterday and learned that the registered owner of the vehicle had a suspended license due to having been arrested for DUI. Dep. Myers confirmed that the person driving was the registered owner, Depal Patel, 25 years of age. Coincident with stopping the vehicle, Dep. Myers discovered a multi-colored glass pipe, marijuana less than 1 ounce, pills, a dark liquid in a glass bottle, and a clear plastic bag containing brown powder. Members of the SID Unit were able to identify several of the items as schedule one narcotics. The remainder of the items will be sent to the GBI for analysis. Depal was jailed and charged with two counts of Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act (VGCSA), possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce, and driving while license suspended. Further charges could result once GBI test results are obtained.
