A prisoner who escaped from the Douglas County jail was captured Friday afternoon.

ROSS CAVITT: Escaped Douglas County Inmate Captured

Channel 2 Action News reporter Ross Cavitt said the inmate was found near the intersection of Wood Road and Highway 5 about a mile from the jail.

The Channel 2 Action News assignment desk spoke with an official in Douglas County who identified the escapee as Jackie Ray Crawley.

Deputies told Ross Cavitt that Crawley was working as a trustee at the jail’s warehouse. He was unloading a shipment of food when he walked away from the jail.

Early Friday, Cavitt said searchers were concentrating on an area west of Douglasville where footprints were found near railroad tracks.  As it turned out, Cavitt said the inmate was found nowhere near where the search was being conducted.

K-9 units were called in to help track Crawley.

Crawley was in custody after being arrested following a high-speed chase that went from Douglas County into Paulding County in February.  Officials said Crawley was driving a stolen truck during the chase.
