3. Declaring the week of May 10 – May 17, 2009 as “Law Enforcement Week” in Douglas County and observing May 15th as “Peace Officers Memorial Day” in honor of those law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. (Stan Copeland)

5. Resolution recognizing Georgia Department of Community Affairs Honor designating Douglas County as a Waterfirst Community.

6. Resolution authorizing the grant application to Georgia Department of Transportation for funds for park and ride expansion, upgrades, and vans for replacement and new routes. (Gary Watson)


7. Authorization to accept the Health Promotions grant and amend the General Fund budget by increasing revenue from Local Government & Office of Risk and Safety by $3,000.00 and authorize Chairman to sign all related documents. (Matt Laverne)

8. Authorization to accept funds from the Sheriff’s Department Asset Forfeiture account in the amount of $4,095.00 for a Ballistic Shield for SERT. (Jennifer Hallman) Note: I searched on Google for “Ballistic shield” and the highest-priced one was $2,949.99.

9. Authorization to accept funds from Letter of Credit from Lewis Newman in the amount of $24,000.00 for completion of work in Newman Farms; and to pay back depending upon completion or place funds into the Sidewalk Fund so work can be completed. (Jennifer Hallman)

11. Authorization to award Tax Anticipation Notes (TAN’s) in the amount of $13,000,000.00 to SunTrust Bank. (Diane Connors)

12. Authorization to award bid for ready mix concrete as follows: Wayne Davis Concrete as primary; Ready Mix as secondary; and Thomas Concrete as Third. (Diane Connors)

13. Authorization to award bid for gravel materials as follows: Lafarge Aggregates as primary; and Vulcan Materials Company as secondary. (Diane Connors)

14. Authorization to award bid for pavement markers to Peek Pavement Marking and Highway Services, Inc. (Diane Connors)

15. Authorization to enter into a new agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation for an Off System Safety Project consisting of curve and shoulder improvements as set forth in Project CSSTP-000-00(127) and Douglas County PI # 0007127 and authorize the Chairman to sign all related documents. 16. Authorization to execute a contract between AARP Workplace Program and the Woodie Fite Senior Center for temporary additional manpower with no cost to Douglas County or the Woodie Fite Senior Center. (Gary Dukes)

The dedication of the Memorial Garden at the Woodie Fite Center will be held Monday evening, May 11th, at 7:00 p.m. in the garden. The Public is invited.

The Taste for Douglasville Arts will be Saturday, May 16th, in downtown Douglasville from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. This annual event is sponsored by the Cultural Arts Council, and the public is invited.

The monthly Chat with the Chairman will be held Monday evening, May 18th from 6 – 7 p.m. in the Chapel Hill Fire Station, and the Public is invited.
